Children’s Hospitals and Clinics is a not-for-profit, comprehensive health care provider serving the diverse needs of children from infancy through adolescence. Children’s has been caring for Minnesota’s children since 1924. With 299 staffed hospital beds at hospitals in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and services available in all major pediatric specialties, Children’s is the largest pediatric health care organization in the upper Midwest and the eighth largest in the U.S.
In addition to treating the everyday ailments of childhood, from tonsillectomies to broken arms, Children’s also provides nationally recognized treatment for premature infants, cancer patients, and children with asthma and diabetes. In addition, Children's is setting the standard for care beyond traditional hospital care.
• Children’s integrative medicine program is unique in the region and one of the few in the U.S. to be based at a pediatric hospital.
• Our pediatric hospice and palliative care department is a national model. In 2003, Children’s was awarded a grant by Congress to develop pediatric education services for clinicians and providers in the upper Midwest who care for children who are seriously ill or need end-of-life care.
• Our certified child life specialists address the child’s need to understand and cope emotionally with the medical experience. Child life staff use many techniques to help a child adjust to the hospital and to maintain a normal lifestyle. We know that a child who feels "at home" is less anxious and may recover more quickly.
Most importantly, Children's Hospitals and Clinics cares for the whole family, not only the patient. It is in our mission to champion the special health needs of children and their families. We are committed to improving children's health by providing high-quality, family-centered pediatric services. We advance these efforts through research and education. At Children's Hospitals and Clinics, we know children here.
